A Kid’s-Eye Tour of Our Petaluma Chiropractic Office: What Your Child Will See, Hear, and Feel

New places can feel really big when you are small. A new door. New faces. New sounds. For a lot of kids in Petaluma, Penngrove, and Cotati, the first chiropractic visit is a "brand new place" day.

So let's walk through our office together, at kid height. Read this with your child if you like. When they know what is coming, they can relax. The nervous system is the brain, the spinal cord, and all the nerves. It runs everything the body does, and it likes to feel safe.

Stop 1: The front door and a friendly hello

When you walk in, someone will say hi to your child by name. Not just to you. To them. Kids notice that.

There is room to sit, room to wiggle, and no rush. If your little one wants to hold your hand or stay on your lap the whole time, that is perfect. We go at their speed.

Stop 2: The "cool camera" scans

Next comes our favorite part to explain to kids. We use special tools called INSIGHT scans. They don't hurt. Nothing pokes. Most kids think they are pretty neat. Here is how we explain each one to a child.

The warm-spots scan (neuroTHERMAL): a tool glides down the back and reads heat. The heat pattern tells us how the automatic nerves are doing. Those are the nerves that run things on their own, like your tummy and other organs and glands.

The energy scan (neuroCORE): little sensors rest on the back and read the electrical energy the nerves are sending out along the spine. We tell kids, "Your nerves make their own electricity, and this tool can see it."

The heartbeat scan (neuroPULSE): a small clip reads the rhythm of the heartbeat. This one shows if the body is stuck on the gas pedal (go, go, go) or can also use the brake (rest and calm).

All three roll into one number called the CORESCORE, from 0 to 100. Kids love seeing the colors on the screen. Parents love having real answers. We don't guess. We test, adjust, and retest.

Stop 3: The table and a gentle adjustment in Petaluma

Then your child meets the adjusting table. Some kids lie down. Babies may stay in a parent's arms. Some kids sit up. Whatever feels safe works.

An adjustment for a child is very gentle. For babies, we use about the pressure you would use to test a ripe tomato. For bigger kids it is still light and quick. We tell them what we are doing before we do it, every time. No surprises.

Our method is called the Zone Technique. We check six "zones" first, then adjust the spots on the spine that match. Think of it like a breaker box at home. When too much runs at once, a breaker trips. The adjustment helps the body get back to working the way it was built to.

Sound like your child's first visit is coming up? We would love to meet your family. You can schedule a visit here and we will walk you through every step.

Stop 4: High fives and questions

After the adjustment, kids often get a high five and a big "you did it." We also leave time for questions, from you and from them. Kids ask great ones. "Can you see my bones?" (No, but we can see how your nerves are doing.) "Will it hurt?" (Nope.)

You get a Zone Slip to take home. It shows which zone we worked on that day, so you can talk about it at the dinner table.

Stop 5: Heading home in Sonoma County

Then it is back out the door and home. Many North Bay families like to grab a snack or head to the park after. Your child may be a little sleepy, or full of energy. Both are common as a body settles after a visit. If anything ever worries you, call us any time.

The next time you come, the office won't be a "brand new place" anymore. It will be their place. That is how kids grow. Strong. Clear. Unshakable.

Tips to help your child feel ready

Read this post together the night before. Tell them it is a "check how your nerves are doing" visit, not a "shot" visit. Bring a favorite stuffed animal. We are happy to "scan" it too. Wear comfy clothes.

Still have questions before you bring your little one in? Our pediatric chiropractic page walks through more of what we do for kids, or call us at 707-242-6624. We are happy to talk it through.
