Common Questions Petaluma Parents Ask Before Their First Chiropractic Visit

Most parents who reach out have already read the website. They know we are neurologically focused. They know we work with babies, kids, and pregnant moms right here in Petaluma. What they still want to know is the everyday stuff.

How long will this take? What do I bring? Can I bring the other two kids? What if my baby cries the whole time?

Those are not small questions. For a tired parent, they are the difference between booking and putting it off one more month. So here are the honest answers, the same ones we give on the phone every day to families in Petaluma, Penngrove, Cotati, and Rohnert Park.

How do I book, and what happens after that?

You start with a short phone call. Five minutes, usually less.

We ask what is going on, we tell you whether we think we can help, and if it is a fit we get you on the schedule. If it is not a fit, we say so. That is not a sales call. It is a screening call, and it saves you a trip.

Once you are booked, you get a text and an email from us with the address, the paperwork, and a short video so you know who you are meeting before you walk in. Then you get reminders as the day gets closer. Nothing about your first visit should be a surprise. You can see the full walkthrough on our what to expect page, or you can just pick a time on the schedule and we will take it from there.

What do we bring, and what should we wear?

Bring almost nothing. Really.

Fill out the intake forms ahead of time if you can, so you are not doing paperwork with a baby on your hip. If your child has had imaging, a specialist report, or a birth record you think matters, bring it. If not, that is fine too. We are not going to send you home for missing a document.

For clothes, comfortable is the whole rule. Leggings, sweats, a t-shirt. Nothing your child has to change out of. Babies stay in whatever they are already wearing, and we work around a onesie without any trouble. Moms, if you are pregnant, wear what you would wear to a walk around Shollenberger Park.

How long does each visit take?

Your first visit runs about forty five minutes to an hour. That is the long one, because we listen first, then run our scans, then do a first gentle adjustment.

The second visit is shorter, usually about thirty minutes. That is the one where Dr. Reilly sits down with you and walks you through what the scans found and what the plan looks like.

After that, regular visits are quick. Ten to fifteen minutes, in and out. Families with a couple of kids are often back in the car faster than they expected. We built it that way on purpose, because a visit that eats your whole afternoon is a visit you stop coming to.

Can I bring my other kids?

Yes. Please do.

We are a family practice. Kids in the office is the normal state of things here, not the exception. There are things for them to do, and nobody on our team is going to flinch at a loud four year old. If you had to wait for childcare to line up before you could get seen, you would never get seen.

Many parents end up bringing siblings in as patients later anyway, because once one kid is doing better the question becomes what about the other one. That is how family chiropractic care usually starts around here. One kid at a time.

What if my baby cries, or my toddler will not hold still?

Then your baby cries and your toddler wiggles. We have seen both, many times, and neither one stops the visit.

Our scans are quiet and gentle. Nothing pokes, nothing shocks, nothing hurts. We can run the INSIGHT scans on a baby who is nursing, sleeping, or squirming in your arms. The adjustment itself is about the pressure you would use to check whether a tomato is ripe. There is no twisting and no popping with little ones.

Sometimes a baby cries because they are hungry, or it is nap time, or a stranger is holding them. That is a baby being a baby. It does not mean anything went wrong.

Do you take insurance, and how does payment work?

We are a cash practice. We do not bill insurance.

There is a reason for that, and it is a simple one. Insurance decides how many visits a person gets and what counts as enough. We would rather build the plan around what your child’s nervous system actually needs and what your family can actually do.

Here is what we promise on money. You will know the exact number before you agree to anything. We tell you the cost of the first two visits when you book, and Dr. Reilly gives you the full plan cost in writing on your second visit, before you decide anything. No surprise bills, no drip of add-on charges, no pressure to answer that day.

What if we need to reschedule or we miss a visit?

You text us and we move it.

Kids get sick. Cars break. Work runs long. None of that is a problem, and none of it means you have to start over. We would rather you move a visit than skip it quietly and drift away for six weeks.

That said, we are honest with families about frequency. The nervous system changes through repetition, the same way a kid learns to ride a bike by riding it, not by thinking about it. A plan that gets kept mostly on schedule works. A plan that gets kept once a month does not. So we build your schedule around your real life up front, not around a perfect week that never happens.

What happens after the first two visits?

You get a plan, and then you get proof.

The plan comes out of your data, not a template. We re-scan along the way and compare the numbers to where you started, because that is the only way to know whether the care is doing anything. We don’t guess. We test, adjust, and retest.

When the plan is finished, most families move into a simple monthly rhythm to hold what they built. Nobody is locked in, and nobody gets talked into more than they need.

Is this you?

If you have been circling this for a while, waiting until you had all the details before you called, this was the post meant for you. You do not need to have it all figured out. You just need the first phone call.

We work with babies, kids, pregnant moms, and whole families across Petaluma, Penngrove, Cotati, Rohnert Park, and the wider North Bay. If you are ready, book a time or call the office and ask us anything on this list again. We are happy to answer it twice.

Strong. Clear. Unshakable.
