How to Read Your Child’s INSIGHT Scan Report: A Petaluma Parent’s Guide to the Colors, Bars, and CORESCORE
After the first scans, every parent at our Petaluma office gets a printed report. It has colors, bars, a dot on a chart, and one big number. It can look like a lot. It is not. Parents from Petaluma, Penngrove, Cotati, and Rohnert Park learn to read it in about five minutes. Once you can read it, you can watch your own child's nervous system change over time. Here is the whole report, page by page, in plain words.
First, What the Report Is Showing You
Your child's nervous system is the brain, the spinal cord, and all the nerves. It runs everything: sleep, digestion, focus, and growing. You cannot see it by looking at your child. Neither can we. So we measure it.
The report comes from our INSIGHT scans. These are three quick, gentle scans. A small sensor moves along the spine. Nothing hurts, and nothing goes into the body.
Each page shows one scan. The last number pulls them all together. Think of it like a report card with three subjects and one overall grade.
Page One: neuroTHERMAL, the Heat Map
This page reads the heat pattern down the spine. Why heat? Along the spine run the automatic nerves. Automatic means they work without you thinking about them. They help run the organs and glands, like the stomach and the immune system. They also control tiny blood vessels in the skin. So the heat pattern tells us where those automatic nerves are working hard.
You will see colored bars next to a picture of the spine. Here is the key.
White means normal. Green means mild stress. Blue means moderate stress. Red means significant stress.
Yellow means that area is running under-active, a little too quiet. Black means the body has been adapting to stress for a long time. We call that compensation, which is the body working around a problem so it can keep going.
The big question on this page is where. Where along the spine do the colors show up? That tells us which parts of the automatic control system need the most attention.
Page Two: neuroCORE, the Energy Reading
This page reads the electrical activity along the spine. Every nerve carries a tiny electrical signal. This scan records how much energy the nervous system is firing off at each level, on the left side and on the right side.
Look for two things. First, how big are the bars? Very tall bars mean the system is stuck switched on, spending energy to stay on alert. Very short bars can mean the system is running low and worn out. Second, are the two sides even? A healthy reading looks balanced, left and right. Lopsided bars mean the energy is not well organized.
Here is why it matters for a kid. That energy is supposed to go to growing, sleeping, learning, and playing. When a lot of it gets spent just staying on alert, there is less left over for the good stuff.
Page Three: neuroPULSE, the Heartbeat Rhythm
This page reads the rhythm of the heartbeat. A healthy heart does not tick like a clock. The space between beats changes a tiny bit, all day long. That is a good sign. It means the nervous system is flexible.
This is the one scan where we talk about a gas pedal and a brake. The gas pedal is the go side, the part that gets us moving and handles stress. The brake is the calm side, the part that lets us rest, digest, and recover. Kids need both, and they need to be able to switch between them.
On this page you will see a dot on a chart. One direction shows the balance between gas and brake. The other shows how much energy is in the tank. We will point to exactly where your child's dot lands and what it means for them.
Is this you? Maybe you have a scan report at home and nobody ever walked you through it. Bring it in. And if your child has never been scanned, you can book a visit here and see your child's own report.
The Big Number: Your Child's CORESCORE
All three scans roll up into one score from 0 to 100. We call it the CORESCORE. A higher score means the nervous system is running more clearly and adapting more easily.
Here is the part every parent should hear. The first number is not a grade on your parenting. It is a starting line.
Kids pick up stress from all kinds of places. We call these the 3 T's. Trauma is the physical stuff, like bumps, falls, and even the squeeze of birth. Toxins are the chemical load a small body has to filter from food, drinks, air, and everyday things around the house. Thoughts are the emotional load kids soak up, like a busy house or a big week. The CORESCORE simply shows how much load your child's system is carrying today.
Picture the breaker box in your garage. When too much load hits one circuit, the breaker trips. The scan report shows us which breakers are working overtime.
Why the Second Report Matters Most
The first report tells us where to start and how often to adjust. The second report tells us how it is going. That is why we re-scan partway through a care plan and lay the two reports side by side.
Here is what we look for. Colors moving toward white. Bars getting more even. The dot moving toward balance. The CORESCORE climbing. When things change, you can see it on paper. When they are moving slower than we want, we see that too, and we adjust the plan. We don't guess. We test, adjust, and retest.
How to Read the Report at Home
A few tips from our office.
Start with the big number, then go page by page.
Look for patterns, not single bars. We read the whole picture together.
Keep every report. Put the first one in a folder and add each new one behind it.
Write down your questions and bring them in. We love these questions.
Compare the paper to real life. How is your child sleeping, eating, and playing? The report and your kid tell the story together.
